Happy December 1st!

IT'S DECEMBER 1st 2011

And today our weather is

B.L.U.S.T.R.Y!!

The Christmas Season was my Dad's favorite holiday.  He loved every single thing about the season.  Each year my Dad and Mom put the lights on the tree and decorate it, then they would turn off the room lights and lie on the floor under the tree, holding hands and enjoy the Christmas lights.  What a precious memory!

So in memory of my Dad I hope we can all keep
the Christ in Christmas and the season close to our hearts.

My Dad

I have been a little sad over the past few weeks.  My Dad got very sick and tried really, really hard to get better, but he passed away on October 19th, 2011.  I miss my Dad every single day.  But I know how very happy my Dad is being with so many loved ones who have gone on before.  And my Dad doesn't hurt anymore.

Marcine and Elden Price - Silver Lake, Utah - 2010

My Dad sure loved his sweetheart- Marcine!  What a pair!  They expressed love towards each other every day!  I am so happy I have that example of pure unconditional love and so many wonderful memories.

Thanks Dad for many sun filled days.
For so many memories,
For so many lessons.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, Unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

61 years ago today

My Dad and Mom were married 61 years ago today.
Their love affair is still sweet and full of love for each other.

I know they will fill the whole day with memories, holding hands and quite a few kisses sprinkled in there as they celebrate together.  I know for sure that Dad will get a home made Lemon Meringue Pie from Mom.  S.W.E.E.T.!  Happy Anniversary!

My cousins Karen and Paul came to visit this week.  The were here for a family relative from extended family and they squooze in time to visit with my Dad and Mom and me!
Karen, Dad, Paul, Mom - Lunch at Janet's work 9-8-2011

The four of them spent the morning together and then they stopped by Honey Baked Ham and picked up sandwiches; we had chips and Terry Price homemade salsa, and cookies.  We had such a great time talking, laughing and catching up on each others events and families.  THE best lunch break I have had in a long time!

Janet gets into the picture!

I LOVE my cousins very much and I am so grateful they took a few minutes out of their busy visit to spend time with me and their Uncle Elden and Aunt Marcine.  I hope we get to do this again soon - either in their town or ours - just SOON!!!  Thanks Karen and Paul!!!

Busy Bee - That's my MOM!

My mother is a VERY industrious woman!  Ever since I can remember she has always had some type of project going.  A.L.W.A.Y.S.!  My mom used to work for Utah Woolen Mills and learned her sewing craft at a very young age.  We always had someone coming to the house for mending, the creation of wedding dresses and full wedding lines, she had a great little job hemming golfers golf pants, and she always kept her kids well dressed, and made winter coats.  My mom is an incredible seamstress!

Well, she has had or was given several pieces of fabric and she wanted to make something with these cute prints.  So she cleaned out a drawer in her sewing room and started to put things together so we could tie some baby quilts, lap quilts, drag-around quilts, etc.  Over the past few days she has been putting these together and this past weekend she started tying the quilts.  I finally went out to help with her very worthwhile project.

Mom and Janet tying a baby quilt on the patio - 9/6/2011

We ended up tying 7 quilts!  Each one ready for gift giving.  And when she isn't putting fabric together to make a quilt she is crocheting hot pads, or baby booties, or scrubbies, or winter beanie hats .  .  . or she could be mending for a neighbor, or altering brides maid dresses, or making dishtowels, or  - - well, like I mentioned before my sweet mom is very industrious, always doing something, always creating something.  She is incredible!

A Pink Rose

Each morning, Monday through Friday I get to the Holladay Lions Club at approx 5:20 am for water aerobics and swimming.  Then My Mom shows up at about 6:15 after she drops Dad off on one of his many designated walking trails and after walking his 3 miles he comes into the pool as well.

Several mornings this spring and summer as I leave after my morning routine (I leave first to get to work on time) I walk out to my car and on my windshield I will often find a note, a flower and this morning there was this perfect pink rose.

Rose Dad picked on his walk - 8/23/2011

Isn't that the best way to start your morning!
A loving gift as simple as a little pink rose.

My Mom has a Garden

My Mom has a beautiful garden and she tends her flowers and garden tenderly.  I often find her out pinching of deadheads, cultivating the ground or just enjoying the colors and beautiful flowers.

 Hollyhocks
Mom fills every spot with color, or a small pathway, bird feeders, anything to bring beauty to one who may walk through her gardens.

 Walkway to back patio
The aroma of different flowers is pleasant to your senses.

Marcine Price watering her flower beds
On warm days the flower beds get an extra drink of water.  It has been so nice during our monsoon season, because late afternoon a rain storm burst forth with buckets of rain.

 Flower bed sprinkled with Cairns
If you get a chance this summer/fall take a walk through my mother's garden and enjoy the aroma's that will please your sense of smell, the colors that will please your eyes, it is B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.

Park City - July 30, 2011

My Dad and my brother Scott try to get together each year for a photo shoot of someplace interesting and where they can take pictures of interesting subjects and scenery.  This year they chose Park City, Utah, it is close and there is always something interesting to photograph.  While the "guys" were off traipsing along the hills and fields and streets of Park City, Mom and I walked the old Main Street.

The "famous" photographers - Elden and Scott Price

Dad and Scott always have a wonderful time together and today was no different.  If you would like to take a peek of some of Scott's photo's you can visit him on facebook, under Scott Price.

Old Town Park City - Photo by Scott Price, July 30, 2011

Scott took the photo above.  Love the colors!  The houses along the hills of Park City are so colorful and they are all squeezed into the tiniest spots.  It is a sight to see.  Mom was telling me how there used to be an old "China Bridge" they used to walk along to get from one hill to the next.  Sounds interesting, but Mom said as a young girl it was a bit scary to walk along the bridge and feel is sway back and forth.

Marcine C. Price - Marsack (sp?) School in distance

My Mom went to the school you see behind her.  It is now the city buildings for Park City.  We also visited the old Blue Church where Mom was baptised, and it is now a lodge.  As we walked along Main Street Mom found the door to the dance studio where she learned to tap dance.  She said her teacher was so nice.  Mom loved those lessons.

Park City Street with flower basket - Monument of Park City Miner

The streets were pretty quiet when we got there, but it was fun to watch them come alive as people began to wake up on this Saturday morning and come out for breakfast, coffee and a little site seeing.  I loved how the streets were lined with these beautiful flower baskets, and the smell was wonderful!  The monument in the background was to honor all the miners who worked the mines in old days gone by.

"Loosey" the Moose was quite the attraction!

Mom and I found this very comfortable bench in the shade to "people watch", and it just happen to be right by our friend above.  Many families came by and wanted pictures with "Loosey", so I took those photo's for them.  It was fun!

Marcine C. Price - War Veterans Memorial Building/Park City, Utah

Mom and her sister used to sing in this building.  The women's auxiliary group would meet and they would have a luncheon and entertainment.  Mom and her sister happen to be that talent one day and they sang two songs, the women LOVED their voices and harmonizing, so they clapped and asked for an encore.  Mom told them that they only knew those two songs, so they asked that they sing them again.  Mom was only about 7 or 8 at the time.

They used to go roller skating in this building and they even had a bowling alley at one time.  At the Egyptian theatre down the street they went to the "cinema", (they didn't call them the movies in those days") and the cost was 12 cents.

We had such a fun day!  We met up with Scott's wife Marla, had lunch together and then we all went home happy.  I look forward to the next photo shoot and I hope I get invited!

Dime-On-Pin Club

I have been going to the Holladay Lions Fitness and Recreation Center for about 3 weeks now.  My Dad and Mom have gone here for years.  Mom swims laps and Dad walks his three miles each morning and then comes into the pool to swim a little and enjoy the hot tub.

The center opens at 5:30 each morning (excluding Sunday, when they open at 10:00 am), and I am usually in that door and in the pool by 5:32 five days a week.  It has been W.O.N.D.E.R.F.U.L.  Just getting in a good swim starts my morning off perfectly.  I have participated in some water aerobic classes and on Friday I join in the Zumba Water Aerobics.  So much fun!!!  And there is the added bonus that I get to spend some quality time with my parents and meet all their friends.

One of their friends made me an honorary member of the Dime-On-Pin Club.  Scattered about the pool there are several men and women who have been inducted into this special club.  Once he gives you this token you wear it proudly on your suit.  Above is my pin on my swim suit.

I look forward to each morning when I can be in the water and exercise!

Old Glory

My Dad and Mom fly our beautiful flag every single day.  When I was a young girl and through out the years we always had a flag at our home waving proudly from a flag pole.  We were all taught to love this beautiful emblem of freedom and a symbol of what our forefathers fought for.
I love the Pledge of Allegiance.
I think our flag is beautiful.

 New Flag - 7/4/2011

Dad and Mom bought a new flag to replace the one that was tattered and worn.
And Dad put this new flag up for Independence Day- 2011.
It was a beautiful sight.
As my Dad put up this new flag I got tears in my eyes.
I love this Land of America.

Elden G. Price - United States Navy 1945-1946

My Dad fought for this country in the United States Navy.
He served honorably and I am so proud of my Dad.
My Dad loves this country.
My Dad is my Hero!

A Good Spanking

I got a good spanking from my sister Bonnie the other day.  She doesn't know that she gave me such a spanking, but it was.  I happen to be speaking with her on the phone and she said she clicked into my blog to see if I had written anything new from my last post and alas - - NOTHING.  I loved that she mentioned the post I wrote about our Dad with his twinkling eyes and genuine smile and she said it made her smile and feel happy to see it and read again.

So the spanking was - I need to post to my blog more often!

Now, I must tell you that I wanted to put a cute picture of someone getting spanked on this post, you know "illustrations" always make the post a little more interesting, but when I googled the word spanking - - OH MY!  Don't do that! - because the word is associated with erotic spankings!  Yikes!!!  Needless to say I escaped, and NO pictures will be posted today!

My Dad!

My Dad is one of the best people I know (my Mom being the other)!  He is a joy to be around.  We just celebrated Father's Day and of course my Dad is the best Dad in all of Salt Lake City, Utah!  And then we get to honor him again in June because his birthday is this month as well.  We party throughout the whole month!

Elden G. Price - July 2006

My Dad is kind, he has a huge heart and loves unconditionally, he lives a Christ-like life.  My Dad loves his father and mother and his brothers.  He speaks of them often, with great respect.

 Dad and Mom- Pittock Mansion-Oregon - 2009

My Dad loves my Mom with all his heart and they are each others best support, confidant, mentor, lover and friend.

Cannon Beach Oregon - March 2010 (My Mom walking ocean side)

My Dad loves the ocean.  He enjoys sitting on the beach and listening to the ocean waves, the birds, people sounds and even as the sun sets on the ocean waves and the quiet of this paradise.  He comes the ocean to B.R.E.A.T.H.E.

Silver Lake - Big Cottonwood Canyon- 2010

My Dad loves nature.  He still enjoys his three mile walk each morning at sunrise.  He makes a point to say "Good Morning Sun" as it peaks over the mountains each morning.  Dad finds joy in the simple things, like picking a rose bud to give to his sweetheart so they can watch it open to full flower.

My Dad loves his family, his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.  There is nothing sweeter than the sound of one of them calling out to their dad/grandpa/or great grandpa.  He claps his hands together and takes them in his arms for a hug.

I love my Dad with all my heart!

Conversations with a Moonflower

I read the best book last night!  Conversations with a Moonflower by Christine Hall.  It is an easy read and I finished the book last night while I was doing laundry.

As a short summary - The author goes to her grandmothers farm house which is in Amish country and visits their Amish neighbor one night and is "caught up" in the miracle of the Moonflower blooming at dusk.  The sweet Amish neighbor gives her a plant to take back to Utah to plant and it changes her life - for the better.

Pick up this little book filled with so many life lessons and teaching moments.  One of my new Treasures for sure!

Everyone is Moving!

WOW!  May 2011 was a very busy month!  I have not written for a few weeks and I feel lost when I don't post something to my blog during the month!  And the reason is so many of us changed residence!

First Jeremy moved into a home with a friend so they could help each other out.  He is out in the Kearns-West Valley City area and I think he really likes this new home.  He has been involved with painting, new carpet - you know all those things that you do to make the place look like "home".

 Jeremy Hiatt - BBQ
Then Ruth just happened to be driving by her old house on Sherman Avenue and the people she sold to were putting up a For Sale sign.  Ruth loved this little house so she started the process of buying it back from them.  On May 11th she was signing papers and on the 15th she was moving in!

Ruth Price - Sherman Avenue Home- May 2011

Mike and Kasi's lease was up the end of May so they came and looked at my Town Home and wanted to live closer to Salt Lake City and the rest of the family so we started that process of getting a lease drawn up.  They moved to my Town Home in West Valley City on May 22nd.

Mike and KasiJo Minter and family move to Salt Lake

So with their move, I had to skedaddle and get my things moved to Dad and Mom's in Holladay.  All my stuff moved on May 21st.  Actually during the week I would pack boxes at night and drop off each morning and put everything on the patio until we had my furniture moved on Saturday the 21st.  It all worked out so nicely.

Janet - Holladay, Utah May 2011

I think everyone is settled and happy.  But is sure was a busy month!

My Mom

I love my Mom!
Marcine Louise Carter Price.
What an angel!
What an example for all that is good and fair!

Marcine Louise Carter

This is one of my favorite photo's of my Mom when she was a young adult.  My Dad keeps this picture in their TV room where everyone can see it.  I love her adorable smile and the pure joy and happiness you see and feel when you gaze upon this picture.  My Mother's soul is pure.  My Mother is kind.  My Mother is accepting of others.  My Mother has a huge heart.  My Mother loves her children.  My Mother is faithful and committed to her beliefs and to her Heavenly Father.

Elden & Marcine Price - September 2010

My Mother loves her sweetheart with all her heart and they love being together.  I am witness to her unconditional love for my Dad.  They are always holding hands and stealing kisses from each other.

I love you Mom and wish you a very Happy Mother's Day 2011

Happy May!

Are you old enough to remember the all day celebrations we had for May Day?  Oh my goodness - we celebrated, what fun we had!

My siblings and I attended Draper Elementary School and May Day was a big deal! There was an all day carnival, 5 cent hot dogs, which included chips and a soda, booths for carnival fun games, if you won you got a prize!  We got to wear our pedal pushers, keds and just let fun be the top order of the day!

It was a real treat if you were chosen to do the May Pole Dance!  I was one of those dancers one year and I will always remember how important I felt.  I even remember that the color of my streamer was lavender!  I wish the kids now days celebrated May Day like we did.  Regardless, enjoy this beautiful day and the beginning of the Merry Month of May!

Happy Easter 2011!

Happy Easter!  I was thrilled that we had a nice sunshine day!  When my Dad and Mom were in the Philippines serving a mission for our church my Mom learned how to weave baskets out of the pages of old phone books.  It is quite a craft and the end result is stunning!  Well, this year I am one of three teachers for our Primary class on Sundays and Mom made individual Easter baskets for all 12 of our little Sunbeams.  They had Easter grass in the bottom and just big enough to hold a small plastic fillable egg with m&m's, a couple other candies and a little toy.  We delivered the baskets to our sunbeams on Saturday.  These little 4 year olds were so adorable with their sweet smiles and faces of wonder.

Tulips and Easter Basket of goodies
My sister Ruth dropped by on Saturday with a fresh bouquet of Tulips for Dad and Mom.  They are so beautiful!  And Sunday morning the Easter Bunny (with the help of Janet) delivered an Easter Basket filled with goodies for Dad and Mom.  It was so fun!  Of course we made sure there were plenty of black jelly beans - Dad's favorite and peppermint patties - Mom's favorite.

Amanda Petersen, Elden Price, Marcine Price
Easter 2011
My daughter Amanda came by Sunday morning to go to church with us.  We had a nice time together.  Then family started dropping by.  We had a serve yourself type of luncheon of ham, homemade rolls, vegetable tray, fruit tray, jello salad and pasta salad and of course Easter cupcakes and lemon loaf bread.  It was so much fun to gather together!

My brother Terry just completed the Price 100 book 2nd edition.  What an accomplishment!  Dad and Mom were presented with this new book which added 16 new members of the Price Family Clan.  The book is incredible - each family member has a page with their photo, personal information such as birth date, blood type, where born, etc., and then an article about each one.  Dad and Mom are so pleased with this invaluable history of our family.  Kudos to Terry!
